This month we have a couple new bloggists contributing to our site. Here is one from Edwin of Celebutaunt.com . In honor of Austin Fashion Week, he talks about two things we love, Fashion and Film.
Richard Linklater’s cult classic coming-of-age film Dazed and Confused not only ensconced him
forever as the genius behind “the ultimate party movie,” but emblazoned the look, feel and sensibility of an early summer Austin day in 1976 on the hearts, souls and fashionistas of generations to come. The film’s commitment to its world is evident in the abundance of fringe, peasant blouses, high-waisted bell bottoms and tight, colorful jeans – for both the ladies and the dudes.
The most surprising thing is that regardless of how frozen in time these cool, kicked-back styles should be – they aren’t. Many of the iconic looks of this classic film can be found on the streets of Austin today – and SXSW is just one reason this Texas town has its finger on the pulse of fashion. Here’s how you can capture the summer cool of “Dazed and Confused.”
Hippie Chic

It’s no wonder love was free with styles this laid back & earthy. You can emulate the easy style shown off by Mila Jovovich with these retro pieces from Austin based e-boutique Electric Frenchie:
High-waisted brown shorts - Attract all the right attention in these retro-inspired shorts.
Crochet top – If you’re not brave enough to don the bandeau by itself, let a bright one peek through this free-flowing crochet top.
Boho feather necklace –Give any outfit that hippie feel with this whimsical necklace.
Fringe purse – You don’t have to go overboard on fringe to totally rock the vibe.
Pretty and Preppy
Even though the senior girls were anything but nice, they still managed to look great. It’s easy to copy their preppy style – just be sure to leave the snarky attitude behind.
Hoodie sweatshirt – Don’t be afraid to customize just like the senior girls, take a pair of scissors to this cute hoodie to make it one of a kind.
Plaid skirt – Try a flirty skirt instead of shorts – goes great with those trademark knee socks!
Classic Keds – Finish your look with a classic pair of sneakers
Sweet headband – No one can accuse you of hazing when you don this innocent, lace headband.
Darling in Denim
Jody and Simone both know how to rock the denim – and Jody was totally on point in her denim on denim
styling. Borrow their classically cool looks and make some heads turn with these modern takes on the look.
Flare jeans – Trade in your skinnies and be right on trend with these universally flattering flares.
Cute button down – A classic button down is anything but stuffy in a cute pattern and tied at the waist.
Leather belt – Don’t forget to pull it all together with a rugged belt.
Wedges – These classics are back with a vengeance and are the perfect match for this cute, casual look.
Groovy Guys
You can’t leave the guys out of this fashion flashback. Tight, colored jeans, graphic tees, long hair and moustaches were just some of the style highlights from “Dazed and Confused.” Check out these modern takes on those iconic stoner looks.
Colored jeans – Not everyone can pull off pink jeans like Matthew McConaughey, but here’s a less risky option for guys looking to make a splash.
Graphic tees – There’s no shortage of vintage graphic tees to choose from these days, just be sure to get the right size to emphasize those biceps and pecs for all the ladies.
Overalls – If you’re brave enough, these Dickie’s will secure your “Dazed and Confused” fashion cred.
Beanie – And whether it’s rain or shine, you want to be sure to rock an oversized beanie to top it all off.
What’s your favorite “Dazed and Confused” fashion trend?
